Hart of Dixie - Season 3 Episode 5 - Recap - How Do You Like Me Now?
The CW's deep south fish-out-of-water comedy/melodrama Hart of Dixie pulls some character development this week, after last week's big event-centered episode. The characters all start in a place of unrest, and by the end of the episode, everyone has learned a new perspective on their situation, allowing smiles and hugs and good feelings!
Joel is finally settling into life in BlueBell, thankfully. The joke of him not fitting in is the worst. The gossip blog took a poll, though, and it seems that nobody thinks Zoe and Joel are good together! Joel has one last stumbling block that Zoe is set to solve through shouting: Joel can't drive. Her loud pestering makes him nervous and he smashes into the local reverend's car. To make amends, Zoe volunteers to do a zip-line thing with the church's youth group. Joel refuses, because he's afraid of heights, and Zoe has to rush to find a replacement. Her last-minute volunteer ends up being George Tucker, who hates her. Hoo boy! Drama! Once they get to the outdoors camp, the tweens reveal that they all voted for George/Zoe on the gossip blog poll. Joel gets wicked drunk and his newfound liquid courage has him determined to head to the woods to prove to Zoe that he's great. Joel does the zipline without a harness and ends up getting stuck. The show really wants us to hate this terrible dude. He wins over the tweens, at least, and ends up uninjured at the end of the day. No harm no foul, I guess??
Lemon tells the Belles about her new beau, but he's so handsome and amazing that nobody believes her. The Belles even go so far as to check the guest list, not finding anyone called Peter. Meatball is trying to use this all as leverage to find his way back into Lemon's bed, but that's not working for him. She ends up tracking down Peter, but is nervous to contact him because their night together was so magical and perfect that she doesn't want to destroy it.
George is anxious upon Lyndly's return to BlueBell, but she brings tidings of peace. They go their separate ways, but then Lyndly ends up having to fill in on George's pub trivia team. She's really good at it, oops awkward! They set up a date, but George cancels to go help the reverend with the Zoe youth group forest party thing. The two reconcile later, but Lyndly is still creepily determined to make her and George into a thing.
I like this episode for a few reasons. First, Meatball is a bit of an actual character in his scenes with Lemon. We learn he's a Doctor Who fan, a small but nice bit of window dressing for a character who was previously just a bad outfit and a dumb name. Also, George and Zoe have great scenes together. Seeing George be mean is great, and Zoe really needs to get taken down a peg! Anyway, check out this preview... which weirdly spoils most of the last third of the episode!
