Harry Potter Spinoff 'Fantastic Beasts' Release Date Announced

Love the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? Well, you won't have to wait very long for the big screen to take you back there.

J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, a spinoff of her iconic Harry Potter series, will hit theaters on November 18, 2016. This will allow the film to capitalize on the holiday movie season.

The studio has yet to announce a producer, director or actors for the film, but Warner Bros. head Kevin Tsujihara revealed back in March that the studio was looking to make three “megamovies” out of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, matching the ambition of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit film trilogy (although with a much smaller book as Fantastic Beasts clocks in at just 54 pages).

This entire project is the result of Tsujihara convincing Rowling last year to adapt the book, a fictional Hogwarts textbook, for the big screen. Rowling wrote the brief book back in 2001 between the publication of the fourth and fifth Harry Potter novels. The story starts out in New York roughly 70 years before the start of the Harry Potter franchise, follow the adventures of “magizoologist” Newt Scamander.
