Hackintosh with EFi-X - Success!
My Hackintosh computer installation using the EFi-X "dongle" was a success.
The one issue that I had was that my DVD drive wasn't recognized by the EFi-X boot menu. Maybe I need to buy a different brand. (I have an LG). Since I had 2 hard drives, I made a "Mac OS X Install DVD" partition on one of them, and copied the contents of my Mac OS X Install DVD (retail version 10.5.4) on it using my iMac G5's Disk Utility. When I booted up with with the EFi-X, it recognized the hard drive, and I installed Mac OS X on my Hackintosh in less than 15 minutes. Woohoo! I even updated it using Software Update to 10.5.5 -- and no hitch! I have a new Mac, yay!
The other issue I'm seeing is with the video card. I am not seeing the "smooth fonts" I'm used to seeing on my Macs so I will still need to research on this.
Everything looks fine for now, and I will write a more comprehensive post about this later.
Meanwhile: The MacBook Pro has been repaired! I am picking it up right now -- and I am going to complain to the manager over my bad treatment this morning.
Update: At first I thought it may have been the video card, but I now see that it was the new ASUS monitor that was acting up. I calibrated the colors -- of course I don't know what I am doing, but it seems nice. And then I had to lower the resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1600 x 1000. This made the fonts less jagged. Again, I can't complain with these monitors since I got 2 for under $400. The replacement for the one that didn't work should be here by the end of the week.
