'Guardians of the Galaxy' Soundtrack Tops Billboard 200

Guardians of the Galaxy is not only a box office juggernaut, it's a big hit on the Billboard charts.

The soundtrack album for Guardians of the Galaxy, titled Awesome Mix Vol. 1, is now the No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. The compilation is a mixtape featuring classic tracks from iconic artists like David Bowie, the Jackson 5, and the Runaways. This is significant in that not a single song on the soundtrack was recorded specifically for the film, making it a bit of a rarity in the soundtrack market. Granted, this is hardly the only soundtrack to storm the Billboard 200 this year, as the soundtrack to Disney's Frozen became one of the most successful soundtrack albums in history. Fueled by Grammy-winning (and eventual Oscar-winning) track "Let It Go," the Frozen soundtrack topped the Billboard 200 in January.

To date, the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack has sold 169,000 copies, which is pretty awesome. Pun intended (because, dammit, I'm corny and proud).
