Grimm - Season 3 Episode 6 - Recap - Stories We Tell Our Young

The week's episode of NBC's Grimm introduces some new concepts, but also follows up on the incredibly slow royal family plot. It's fine, though, because the eponymous fairytale hunter Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) discovers a weird new fairytale monster this week that's rather exciting!

Captain Renard (Sasha Roiz) is leaving to deal with all the royal family nonsense. Nick and Hank (Russell Hornsby) are tasked with covering for him. He's staying in a basement with some new character. Some bad guys attack him but geez I just can't figure out how to care about this plot... Until Analind meets with the new Prince, played by guest star Alexis Denisof (adopting his accent from Buffy/Angel!). He's off-screen, but I read the synopsis for next week and also I recognized his voice!

Some parents are having their dumb kid blessed or something by a priest who looks like he has played exclusively Nazis during his career. The parents seem real worried about whatever is wrong with their kid, but they have to leave the room for the blessing/exorcism. The kid starts flailing during the prayers and his face monsters out. I guess... he's Wesen?? Oh boy.

Nick and Hank show up at a crime scene, guess where? A church. Every time a crime happens in Portland what involves magic or Wesen, Nick and Hank get assigned to it before ever finding out that it's a supernatural thing. What luck! Anyway, the older priest is dead and the kid is gone. Nick's super-hearing finds the boy hiding in a cabinet, though. Nick suspects the kid's Wesenhood, but the parents don't seem to be anything aside from regular humans. Time to consult the Scooby Gang's resident Wesen, Monroe and Rosalee! They don't seem to know of any problem with a one-sided Wesen parentage or even mixing Wesen species, so that clue track is a dead end. Time to interview the younger priest who was assisting with the exorcism! Dude is convinced the kid is possessed by a for-realsies demon. The kid monsters out in front of a nurse, which gets Nick's attention. Back to the books! Rosalee and Monroe tell Nick about some kind of mutation where a regular kid just ends up being a pseudo-Wesen somehow, and these kids are usually disappeared by The Council. Rosalee wants to report it, but Monroe isn't so sure. The books say it could be a disease of some kind, so Juliette is enlisted (what with her veterinary knowledge) to help find out from the parents what exactly is up. It seems like he got sick overseas, and Juliette's theory is that he's infected with some kind of Wesen parasite. No time to worry about that, though, since The Council has sent an agent after the boy. Thanks, Rosalee, good job. UGH. The guy steals the kid, Nick and crew give chase. The kid escapes, which just causes more chasing. Nick tackles the kidnapper, but the kid is still running scared. He falls over, and the new theory out of nowhere is that the cold will kill the parasite... and it works!

This week's episode was cool, but I'm so excited for next week that I can barely focus on this one. Next week, there's a Krampus and an Alexis Denisof and it's a Christmas episode and two hours long and aaaaaaahhhhh I can't wait!! Anyway, check out this week's preview below!
