Grimm - Season 3 Episode 3 - Recap - A Dish Best Served Cold

Grimm - Season 3 Episode 3 - Recap - A Dish Best Served Cold

NBC's Grimm continues its third season, now finally get out of the season two finale follow-up and back into regular episodes. There's less focus on royal families and European blood ties and more time sent on fairytale monsters who want to murder one another.

Nick is seeing a doctor, at the behest of Juliette. Seems like a good way to get his superpowers found out, but she was very insistent. The test result shows that his heart rate would not rise at all no matter how fast they had him run. Juliette insists with Nick that something is very wrong, but Nick just feels... good! He says he's more aware, more in tune with his surroundings. Yep, enhanced senses superpowers will do that! At one point, Nick goes all cold zombie again while he's stressing about the case he's working on. I'm certain this plot will follow us throughout the season.

Rosalee and Monroe are still doing the romance dance. Stuff is getting serious! Monroe wants them to move in together, and they profess their love. There's a little moment where Monroe is about to eat an appetizer, but it has meat in it, so he doesn't. This is important for later! Their dinner is interrupted by an old friend of Monroe's, but only briefly. Suspiciously so. They get a call later about the friend they ran into. His wife says this guy Sam has gone missing!

Meanwhile, some weird dude is running through the woods tearing his shirt off. He falls down against a tree, finally removing his shirt to reveal a big, bulging, gross belly. He climbs the tree, then his face wolfs out before his belly bursts. Gross! Nick and Hank arrive on the scene, suspecting he'd been cut open with a chainsaw. The dude and his wife had been out to dinner the night before. Seems connected to me! Then, another body in the same arrangement shows up. She'd also been out to dinner the night before... Hmmmm! Nick and Hank head to the restaurant where both couples ate. Everyone there is wesen, pig people.

So now Rosalee, Monroe, and Juliette have to be caught up on Nick and Hank's case. Rosalee says it sounds familiar, and the finds why of it all. There's a certain mushroom that can be cooked into food and only be toxic to blutbaden (big bad wolfs, if you're not up on the lingo). The restaurant had served everyone beef and truffle tarts, but only the wolfs get harmed! Monroe is riled up for murder. He wants to end that chef. Nick confronted the chef, who is completely unapologetic. He's proud of what he's done, the bastard. This finally tips Monroe over the edge, sending him into a rage. Monroe finds and is about to end the chef, but Nick is forced to shoot him! Oh no! Then a bunch of other wolf dudes show up to menace the pig man, who confesses. Once Nick and Hank leave to get chef pig dude to sign a confession, Monroe gets up, revealing the ruse to us!

This was a good one-shot episode. There's less stuff about Analind and princes, so little in fact that I didn't feel the need to mention it at all. If you're for some reason super invested in her plot, she visits a friend of Renard's and also gets some room service she didn't order. That's about all. Anyway, I'm glad Grimm has gotten away from just straight-up re-imaginings of fairytales and instead is doing stuff like this, which is a revenge tale that's simply based in a classic fairytale rivalry. Clever, clever! Check out the preview for this episode below!
