Grimm - Season 3 Episode 2 - Recap - PTZD

NBC's Grimm is back this week, still following up on the season two finale's plot directly. Nick is still a zombie and everyone else is still panicking. Renard's royal brother is dead now, though, so that's a positive at least!

Monroe and Hank are still on the hunt for Nick, keeping in touch with Renard, Juliette, and Rosalee. Nick, meanwhile, is terrorizing a family. How heroic of him! Not his fault, though. He's still all zombied up from his encounter with the pufferfish man. He punches right through their door and gets into their home. Hank and Monroe manage to get Nick out of the house before anyone gets torn to shreds or anything. They trap him in a barn just in time for the other half of the crew to arrive with a giant needle full of cure. They get it in him and take him back to the spice shop for another dose. Nick wakes up some time later, confused but no longer whacked out on tetrodotoxin. After all this excitement, Nick is sent home and our pals all split up.

Renard discovers that the bar where Nick was throwing down last episode had a security camera. He hides the footage. Hank finds out someone died in the fight, and the two agree that they've got to protect Nick, who was not in his right mind. They bring this info to the rest of the crew, and only Juliette is hesitant about agreeing to lie. Nick finds out when some cops show up to take Juliette's fake statement. He's furious. Hank and Renard try to talk him down when Juliette fails, but Nick is all set on turning himself in. Only once Renard shows him the security footage does he relent.

After the day of madness, Juliette lies down for a well-deserved night of rest. She lovingly strokes Nick's face, but... he's cold to the touch! And he's grey! And she can't find his pulse! Oh no! She shakes him and shakes him, but he only regains his color and wakes up once she gets through to 911. Figures. He feels fine, not knowing anything was wrong. Later, he's listening in a conversation and his hands go all grey again, crushing a coffee mug. Interesting... It looks like his superpowers and his zombie state are going to end up being tied together more closely than I'd thought.

Analind is still doing her weirdo gypsy ritual to get her powers back. She takes the dead flowers she's collected and sows them into her mother's big open chest wound (from when the gypsy lady stol her heart??) and then has to cut the thread with her teeth. It's really gross! The whole ritual is a bunch of seemingly-arbitrary weird stuff. Later, the gypsy lady re-opens the corpse's sown up wound and hands Analind a jar. Gross. She's got to fill it up with (ugh, yuck) body insides juice. She rubs the viscous red gunk over her baby-filled belly. It gets absorbed in, and a skull shape lingers. How ominous.

Yes yes yes. This show is getting good now. There's a whole crew of pals to help with Nick's work as a Grimm, plus Nick has superpowers now. One of my biggest complaints watching the show in seasons one and two was that Nick wasn't specially-equipped to fight monsters at all. He could see them, but the monsters all have cool powers. Now Nick is matching them on their level, with his blinding last season and his zombification just now lending him heightened senses (and maybe super strength??) with which to fight all the boogiemen and boogiewomen. Let me know how you're liking this season in the comments and check out this video preview below!
