Grimm - Season 3 Episode 12 - Recap - The Wild Hunt
NBC's got one last episode of Grimm for us before a big Olympics hiatus. Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) has a tougher mystery to solve, and now has to balance it with his pals having tough personal lives. He's been already having a tough time balancing his monster-hunting birthright with his career in law enforcement, having to fudge evidence and tell lies to avoid revealing this secret society of monsters to the world. Will this case be the one that takes him too far?
A police chase ends with a cop getting all mangled by a monstered-out baddie. The bad guy scalps his victim, which is... extremely odd behavior! Even for a bad guy! Anyway, Nick and Hank get called in on the case, naturally. The scalping turns out to be the latest in a series, moving north from Mexico. The monster man is targeting men in uniform, mostly cops (with a few military guys thrown in for good measure). The baddie's got a hotel room, where he's tanning the scalps he collected. The stench from it draws the attention of the, uh... consierge? That would be the word if it were a fancy hotel. This is just a kid in tight pants. Anyway, bad guy steals this guy's car just as Nick and his cop buddies are arriving to follow up on a lead. Nick and Hank hit to books, finding out that this guy is a Berserker (among other names that are much harder to spell) who collects warrior scalps to make a cloak from them. Nick is his next target!
Over in Austria, Analind is walking on eggshells. She's being followed and watched by both sides of the confusing political intrigue over this royal family stuff. She meets with Prince Viktor (guest star Alexis Denisof) to answer some questions. They know Captain Renard has been keeping tabs on her. She comes clean about the note Renard left, but lies about the contents. Renard learns about all of this via his mole in Viktor's organization. It seems both sides are preparing to make a move on Analind and her royal baby, and not a moment too soon, since the baby seems about ready to punch its way out from the womb!
Monroe and Rosalee are on a big date, but for some reason, Monroe is all nerves. It quickly becomes apparent why this is, as he's got a really cute marriage proposal all set! He's put the ring in a cuckoo clock and rigged it to say "Will you marry me?" somehow. Rosalee of course says yes. The planning stages seem sticky already. Rosalee still needs to meet Monroe's parents, and the both of them need to figure out how to break it to their Wesen pals that their best buddy Nick is a Grimm. I don't know what it is with Wesen and their parents, but dang they gotta get over their issues! Once Monroe calls his parents, it's a little more obvious why. Monroe's parents are the worst. Typical overbearing, nosy parents. Friendly enough, but yeesh. The 'rents show up early, and oops, they're racist against the kind of Wesen that Rosalee is. Uuugh, what bad people! Rosalee storms out and the fight gets heated when there's a knock at the door. Nick has shown up, and when Dad goes monster-face, he sees that Nick is a Grimm, ending on a cliffhanger with the threat of fighting! "Oh $#@%!" says the fade to black. I agree!
This was a good episode because we got a lot of Monroe/Rosalee, my favorite part of the show. Analind's story, while remaining wholly incomprehensible to me, was even engaging this week! There won't be new Grimm for the next four Fridays, since there's Olympics to view, so here's one last preview before then!
