'Goosebumps' With Jack Black Gets Official Release Date

Jack Black is entering the world of R.L. Stine's Goosebumps for a big-screen take on the popular children's horror book series. And now, we know when we can expect to see the movie in theaters.
Sony Pictures has announced March 23, 2016 as the official release date for Goosebumps. Interestingly, this date is on a Wednesday, a rare night for film premieres in the modern era. In addition to Black, the film will star Dylan Minnette (Lost, Awake) and Odeya Rush (The Odd Life of Timothy Green). It's uncertain if the film will follow the specific plot of one of the books, or if it will be a completely original work. However, if I had to guess, I would think it'd be an homage of sorts to the series, featuring references and plot points from a collection of different works. Maybe bits of Welcome to Dead House or Say Cheese and Die woven into the main story? I would think the film is being tailored to general audiences, but it wouldn't hurt to toss a bone to fanatics, otherwise why call it Goosebumps at all?
Goosebumps will be directed by Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens, Gulliver's Travels) and produced by Neal H. Moritz (I Am Legend, 21 Jump Street) through his Original Film banner. Deborah Forte of Scholastic Entertainment, the official publisher of the book series, is also on board as a producer.
