'GMA' Says Goodbye to Josh Elliott
Good Morning America anchor Josh Elliott is moving on to greener, NBC-ier pastures.
Effective today, Elliott has been replaced by newscaster Amy Robach as the new full-time co-host of GMA. Elliott was absent as a result of a well-timed vacation day, but co-host George Stephanopoulos confirmed the news that Elliott would be leaving for NBC Sports, with Robach taking over, which is frankly a lot more than I would have expected from anyone on the show, given that NBC hasn't made the official announcement of Elliott's defection just yet.
"He is going to back to his roots, reporting on the NFL and the Olympics on NBC Sports," said Stephanopoulos. "He let us know last night, and, Josh, it has been a great run with you here on GMA. We're very happy you're going to be pursuing your passion."

Co-anchor Lara Spencer also spoke up about Elliott's departure, calling him her "TV brother," and adding that "he's in his zone. We love you. We wish you nothing but the best."
Late Monday morning, Elliott tweeted his goodbyes to his ABC family (from @JoshElliottABC, a twitter handle that's pretty much on its last days), since the digital age has removed the need for massive farewell office parties:
Congratulations to @arobach--a most deserving colleague and a dear, dear friend. @GMA will be the better for your presence, Amy. #proudpal

Impossible to quantify how much I loved--and will miss--my @GMA team: @RobinRoberts, @GStephanopoulos, @LaraSpencer & @Ginger_Zee #grateful

A monumental thanks to Disney/ABC TV Group president Ben Sherwood, without whom three of the best years of my life would never have been.

NBC Sports has yet to officially announce Elliott's role on the network, but NBC mainstay Al Roker tweeted his own humorous welcome to the NBCUniversal fold by referencing the Chris Martin/Gwyneth Paltrow breakup:
Welcome, Josh Elliot to NBC Sports after your conscious uncoupling from GMA/ABC.

Oh, Al. Never change.
