Glee - Season 4 Episode 13 - Recap - Diva
Glee delivers a one-two punch of two fantastic episodes in a row. Ready your diva gown for a episode of gigantic proportions.
Here's the full recap for episode 13 of Glee season 4, Diva:
Kurt's been noticing some odd behavior coming from Rachel lately. Well, not exactly odd, but Rachel-from-Lima to the millionth power, more like. She's been hanging with these annoying gay guys and bossing Kurt around and being more… diva than usual.
Emma informs Finn that Will is coming back soon, and Finn realizes he needs to prep these "kids" for regionals, ASAP. She gives him the brilliant idea of having a Glee contest (don't the best episodes always have those) so the kids will feel motivated to bring out their inner diva swag, and Emma is the "special celebrity guest judge" to help decide on a winner. Once they brief the Glee club on the contest, no one seems more convinced he's a diva than Unique. That is, up until Brittany breaks out into song. One of the most fun numbers of the episode comes in "Diva", yes that awesome Beyonce song that no one remembers. Unique, Brittany, Tina, Marley, and Kitty all march the stage like it's a runway, but my favorite look was definitely Blaine who looks so ridiculous it's hard not to literally laugh out loud.
Rachel and Kurt clash for the first time in awhile, fighting over who had the better song in the winter showcase. Kurt finally drops the bombshell that when the two of them battled it out over "Defying Gravity" back in season 1, he actually lost to Rachel on purpose by fudging the big note at the end. It was a surprise to see what a blow this delivers to Rachel's ego, and Kurt challenges Rachel to "Midnight Madness" at NYADA as a sort of vocal rematch.
Blaine is kind of sick and Tina is kind of still in love with him, but it doesn't stop him from bringing out his diva in a lovely much-needed Blaine solo, "Don't Stop Me Now". Gotta love me some Queen. Was it just me or did Blaine's outfit in this number look like some sort of S&M outfit? At least with the hat on anyway. Finn and Emma bring in a "guest diva" which happens to be Santana Lopez. She can definitely sing, gotta give her that much credit. She does "Nutbush City Limits" which I've never heard before but I have to admit it sounded pretty great. After the song, Santana directly confronts Brittany in front of everyone (umm… awkward?) and reveals that not only did she find out Brit was dating Sam while cruising the internet but she also has a new girlfriend that she's lovingly brought along for a couple seconds of screentime.
Rachel chats with Brody about the Midnight Madness sing-off, but as much as she wants to win, she still sticks up for Kurt when the annoying two gays word-harrass him behind his back. Kurt steps right in and oh-so-politely informs them that his "turtle face" isn't going anywhere. Meanwhile Finn has a cute little heart-to-heart with Emma since he found out through Facebook that she's moved in with Brody. He seems pretty crushed, but Emma urges him to "get back in the saddle." He even helps her pick out a centerpiece arrangement for her wedding. Aww!
Sam and Santana, once alone, can't stop arguing about Brittany, and they have a "song fight" to battle it out, although there seems to be no clear winner. They sing "Make No Mistake, She's Mine." Tina has a moment where she considers calling Mike, but instead catches up to Blaine who is now more sick than ever. For the second time this episode, she brings him something for his cold. Despite his sickness, Blaine vows to help Tina pull out her inner diva, at his place of course. She browses his diva playlist while he gets woozy from some medicine he took. He passes out right as Tina reveals her feelings that she thinks she's in love with him! She then, rather creepily, proceeds to put some rub on Blaine's tummy. While he's sleeping. It goes from creepy to cute when she rests her head on his chest though.
At Midnight Madness for NYADA, only silent applause is allowed and it's apparently moderated by Rachel's boyfriend Brody. Rachel and Kurt get to sing a Les Miserables song, "Bring Him Home", and it's kind of amazing. Kurt wins, but just barely. After Kurt's win, the two annoying gays try to suddenly be his best friend while Adam looks on not saying much but seemingly horrified. Kurt tells them off in probably the most amusing and amazing way possible, but when he tries to comfort Rachel with the hopes of auditioning for Funny Girl, she still seems upset.
In Lima, while Santana is in town, Sue kind of offers her a spot to run the Cheerios because she sees some special qualities in her. It's clear that she's considering it, especially since it would mean being much closer to Brittany. Tina's rubbing and soup payed off, because Blaine is healthy again. She kind of explodes on him, and vows that next time he needs her, "she's all out of soup." It's kind of a breakthrough for Tina, but a confused one at that. And it's a miracle: Tina has a solo. And I actually love it. Madonna's "Hung Up" is a great fit.
The winner of the diva contest ends up being… Tina! Blaine congratulates her and apologizes for not being thankful enough. I love this unexpected but awesome friendship! He even asks Tina to be his date from the Wemma wedding next week! Kurt manages to cheer Rachel up by praising her amazingness and telling her he got them into auditions for Funny Girl. Emma has a meltdown and freaks out in her office while Finn looks on: she's throwing things and there's no calming her down. Finn actually kisses her because nothing else is working… I think that's why he kisses her. My jaw literally dropped because honestly that was the last thing I was expecting. After the kiss he just sort of… leaves.
Santana, finally having some alone time with Brittany, tells her that she just wants Britt to find someone more worthy. Britt also exposes the fact that Santana is not actually dating that girl she kissed in the choir room and she dropped out of school. Brittany talks Santana into following something big, her obvious dream to live in NYC. After a kiss goodbye, Santana closes out the episode with "Girl on Fire", which is amazing. At the end, she gets to Kurt and Rachel's apartment… "I'm moving in."
I personally loved this episode and I can't wait for Will and Emma's wedding next week! I'm trying not to get my hopes too high, but I'd really like to see Damian / Rory again. One brief appearance in the Christmas episode just isn't adequate enough for me! What did you think of this week's episode?
