Glee - Recap - Previously Unaired For A Reason

This is one of the weirdest episodes of Glee I've had to sit through in quite some time. And that is really saying something.

Jane Lynch introduces the "controversial" episode from last year that the network deemed too controversial to air. It's been edited and... I want to say re-shot? Maybe? It's very confusing. I don't know what's happening. If this is supposed to be last year, then why is it so glaringly obvious that a certain few characters are missing?

Read on for our recap of season 5 episode 8 the Christmas episode of Glee "Previously Unaired Christmas".

So, we're like 5 minutes into the episode and there's already been a swastika reference. The nativity scene at the school was defaced so auditions for a living nativity will be held instead. Christmas is a time of contests and competition at McKinley. Along with the auditions, there will be a prize for best Christmas tree among the school's clubs. I don't know why the Glee Club is decorating their tree with antlers but I'm getting a kick out of the other clubs. The... stoner club? is making a pot tree, and the athletes are using cups and jock straps on their trees. This is probably the only laugh I had for the night.

The girls audition for the role of the Virgin Mary but Kitty doesn't join in. She doesn't think she's worthy. To make her believe she is worthy, the club decides an offensive skit that has Unique pushing out a black Jesus baby in a skirt is the way to do that. Blah blah blah, Kitty is the Virgin Mary.

Over in New York, Rachel has gotten her and Kurt jobs in the local mall as Christmas elves. "I'll be the best Jewish elf ever!" Santana, who just so happens to be visiting, will join them as Mrs. Claus. Santa (M.C. Gainey) was a little too drunk for the part and Santana is a little too... Santana. She sends away a child for having a "jacked up grill" and turns away another for "looking Jewish".

A wild Detective Wilden appears! The Pretty Little Liars alum (Bryce Johnson) is a Sexy Santa who asks to have dinner with the trio. This is weird. They just met him and they're drinking and sucking on helium with this guy. At least it gives us the only fun performance of the night: "The Chipmunk Song".

Kurt is practically grinding on this guy every chance he gets. I'm not at all surprised when Rachel and Santana wake up in the morning to find that they have been robbed. I am, however, surprised when they find Kurt tied up as the victim of a weird sexual game.
