In an inevitable move following the loss of five original cast members heading into season five, Glee has bumped up five of its recurring stars to series regulars.

Melissa Benoist ("Marley"), Jacob Artist ("Jake"), Becca Tobin ("Kitty"), Alex Newell ("Unique") and The Glee Project winner Blake Jenner ("Ryder") have been promoted to series regulars, according to a representative for 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the popular FOX musical-comedy.

The promotion comes on the heels of the announcement on Friday that five original cast members would not be returning for season five. Dianna Agron, Heather Morris, Mark Salling, Amber Riley and Harry Shum, Jr. started with the FOX series in 2009, though they may return in the future as guest stars.
