'Glee' Final Season Could Be Cut Short

It looks like the customary 22-episode season for Glee could be cut short in the show's final year.

As FOX transitions to a year-round programming schedule, in which new programs are continually cycled through with minimal hiatues and reruns, Fox Broadcasting Co. entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly confirmed that the decision to move the show to midseasons for 2015 could mean a cut in the initial episode order.

"The order currently is for 22, but we're actually going to sit down with Ryan and really talk about how we're going to end it and figure that out," Reilly said. "The advantage of having it on later in the season is that we don't have to feel the pressure of delivering. We can do them in a row. We're going to sit down and talk about exactly the best way to end the show and how many [episodes] that is."

This isn't the first time the show will have had its episode order cut, as Glee had its season five episode order reduced from 22 episodes to 20, in the wake of production delays at the start of the season following the death of Cory Monteith. With a smaller episode order, FOX might be able to air all the episodes in a row, with no delays. Thus, a reduced order could have certain benefits, from a storytelling perspective.

"We sat down creatively and heard where it was going, and we thought that there was a creative, compelling reason to do it that way," he said. "[Showrunner Ryan Murphy] has a really good beat on where the show is going to be. It will be its last season for sure. When it comes back in the second half of the season, they will also air all of their episodes in a row."

Reportedly, Glee's fifth season finale on Tuesday night will feature a big reveal that is intended to set up the final season. Will you stick around for the farewell season of Glee in 2015? Or has the show overstayed its welcome? Sound off in the comments!
