'Girl Meets World' casts best friend

Hot on the heels of news that 11 year-old Rowan Blanchard has been cast as Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga Matthews in the upcoming Boy Meets World spin-off, Girl Meets World, comes the news that young Riley's rebellious best friend, Maya, has also been cast.

The role of Maya Fox will be filled by 13 year-old Sabrina Carpenter, a Pennsylvania Native and singer, who is signed to Hollywood Records. Her first single with the label was titled “Smile”, and was included on the Disney Fairies: Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust album. The single also charted on Radio Disney’s top 30.

In addition, she’s also been cast in a FOX comedy project titled The Goodwin Games, and will also be guest-starring on an episode of Disney Channel’s hit comedy series Austin and Ally.

Girl Meets World begins production next month, and will be vying for a spot on Disney Channel’s 2013-14 schedule. It's almost impossible to imagine it won't get picked up, given the insane amounts of buzz behind it. But then, anything can happen on TV.
