Gerard Butler Drops Out of 'Point Break' Remake

The upcoming remake to the 1991 action movie Point Break has hit a bit of a snag. After initially joining the remake in January in the co-lead role of Bodhi, the role once played by Patrick Swayze in the original cult classic, Gerard Butler is now having second thoughts about the project.

Various sources now confirm that Butler has dropped out of the project for unspecified reasons. It could be that the scheduled June start date for the production cuts it awfully close to the upcoming shoot of the Olympus Has Fallen sequel, London Has Fallen. If this is the case, it could be either a contract conflict, with London Has Fallen taking priority since he signed up for the sequel first, or it could be that Butler simply sees more money in the Olympus sequel than in this Point Break remake, and chose to go with a proven commodity. Then again, it could be neither: some sources are citing "creative differences" as a motivating factor in Butler's exit, which doesn't bode well for the script, which is expected to hew close to the 1991 original (prompting us to wonder exactly what the point of a remake is in the first place).

Either way, the film is still scheduled to begin shooting in June with co-lead Luke Bracey, who takes over the Johnny Utah role played by Keanu Reeves in the original film.
