It looks like Gravity will be George Clooney's only shot an Oscar this year.
The latest directorial effort from Clooney, the World War II heist drama The Monuments Men, has been pushed back to 2014.
The film was scheduled to open on Dec. 18, but the movie will now hit theaters during the first quarter of 2014, after Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov asked Sony and 20th Century Fox to postpone the release in order to complete the extensive visual effects work for the movie. The Monuments Men centers on a team of art historians and museum curators tasked with rescuing art treasures from Nazi possession. Clooney directs and stars in the movie alongside an all-star cast that includes Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, and Hugh Bonneville. Clooney and Heslov also wrote the script, adapting the screenplay from Robert Edsel's nonfiction book, The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History
The Monuments Men had been considered an Oscar frontrunner, but the release date change will render it ineligible for 2013 Oscar consideration. It's the latest awards contender this season to be pushed back to 2014 after Sony Pictures Classics' Foxcatcher and The Weinstein Co.'s Grace of Monaco.
