Genius Bar to the Rescue
As much as the Apple-fanboys want you to think that Macs are the best computers in the world, they really aren't. I've owned 3 Macs and 2 iPods, and each one needed a warranty-type repair within one year. I love my MacBook Pro, but experience has taught me that some crazy shit is bound to happen to it any moment now.
And so early this morning, my laptop suddenly stopped working. Turned it off -- and then it wouldn't boot. Darnit. After trying my magic for 30 minutes to no avail, I decided that it needed to go to the Apple Store for some fixing. I just love the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue since it is open 24 hours. Even though their online appointment system said that they were fully booked, I thought that there probably won't be a line for repairs at 8 AM. True enough, I got wait-listed and was seen by a "genius" in a few minutes. Turns out that there was a botched software update this morning that paralyzed my computer. What-the-heck? So the update fails to install -- not my fault -- and then the computer stops working? Anyway. Thankfully, all was settled in less than 30 minutes as usual. Whew, disaster averted. I need my computer for the holiday weekend!
Even though I've learned to expect trouble from my Apple products -- other brands have it worse. Sony's computer support has traumatized me for life. Same with Dell ever since they transferred all their consumer customer support to India (business accounts are still handled in the U.S. I think). A few months ago, I entered Dell customer support hell when I was transfered to 12 different people in the span of an hour, and then the last person hung up. Mother of god, never again, Dell. Never again.
So thank god I could just take a cab to the Apple Store and get my defective Apple products fixed in a jiffy. Yup, I forgot to make a special post that I bought a MacBook Pro last Summer. It's really great and I highly recommend it -- just don't forget to backup your data.
