Gabby Douglas Wins Women's All-Around Gymnastics Gold - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results

The Russians were out for blood in tonight's Women's All-Around with both Victoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina knocking out one spectacular routine after another. However, there was one gymnast who was even more spectacular. Gabby Douglas!
Gabby put up big scores on all four events, particularly her specialties the vault and uneven bars. She also turned in a very solid beam routine, in which she fought for every tenth. She finished up on the floor in her usual personality packed and energetic way. She really looked like a champion tonight! The British commentators were floored by the huge total score she put up.
Mustafina made a critical error on the balance beam, taking her out of gold medal contention and opening the door for Aly Raisman to move onto the podium. Unfortunately Aly couldn't capitalize. Her beam routine was just o.k. with lots of wobbles and a step on the dismount.
Going into the final apparatus, the floor, Komova looked like the last woman standing between Gabby and the Gold. Mustafina was solid on floor, but not great. Aly did one of the best floor routines I have seen her do, but her score was only good enough to place her in a tie with Mustafina. The tie breaker, which is based on the gymnasts' execution score, did not go Aly's way and she finished in fourth place.
Komova turned in a spectacular floor routine, but she came into the last event with about a .3 deficit and her score was not enough to overtake Gabby. The performances from the top four athletes were truly awe inspiring. Gabby Douglas turned in one of the best and most hard fought All-Around performances I have ever seen. I am so proud of her!
