FXX Will Marathon the Entire 'Simpsons' Series + Put It Online
The longest marathon in the history of television will soon be a reality for viewers subscribed to FXX. As announced in April, FXX will air all 522 episodes of The Simpsons (plus The Simpsons Movie) in an uninterrupted, chronological marathon that will run from August 21st to September 1st. From Sept. 2 onward, The Simpsons will air on FXX's regular weekday and weekend lineups, with special themed, eight-episode mini-marathons airing Sunday from 4 p.m. until the new episode’s broadcast on Fox at 8 p.m.
This is mostly in service of promoting the Season 26 premiere on FOX, which will kill off one long-running character; however, it's not the only reason.
The marathon is being used to promote the launch of the Simpsons World digital hub in October, which will allow FXX subscribers to watch any episode in the entire series' run on demand on their desktops at SimpsonsWorld.com, on mobile devices on the FXNow app, and through iPhone, iPad, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Android phones and tablets, Smart TVs, and additional set-top devices. Basically, FXX is looking to get the most out of the $750 million they paid for the entire backlog of The Simpsons earlier this year.
Since FXX is pretty much the only place you'll be able to get the entire backlog of The Simpsons, short of buying the DVDs themselves, FXX is expecting a lot of hardcore Simpsons fans to give their network a shot. As if It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia isn't reason enough.
