FXX Airing All 522 'Simpsons' Episodes Consecutively
With the network's recent $500 million licensing deal for rights to The Simpsons, FXX has decided to make the most of its newest property. In a 12-day marathon this summer, FXX will air all 552 episodes of The Simpsons consecutively, starting with the pilot on August 21st, and concluding with the Season 25 finale on Labor Day (September 1st). For its regular schedule, FXX intends to serve up four full hours of Simpsons episodes every Sunday in the fall, as a means of building up to the historic Season 26 premiere.
The deal is also significant for Simpsons fans everywhere in that past seasons will finally (FINALLY!) be making their debut on a streaming platform. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, Redbox Instant -- not a single video on-demand service has had classic Simpsons episodes: every single episode of the series will be made available on the FXNow app this August, which should be enough to put that app on the map, since this is probably the first many will be hearing of it. If nothing else, FXX is really putting that $500 million licensing deal to work.
I'm just glad I'll be able to watch "Last Exit to Springfield" (the best episode ever) whenever I want, while also catching other classic episodes in syndication, since my local FOX affiliate refuses to show any episode earlier than 2008. But then, let's not get into the pesky debate on if/at what point The Simpsons started to slide. As long as those first ten seasons still exist, I'm good. (Wait...damn.)
