'Frozen' Co-Director Apologizes to Parents for 'Let It Go'

If you're a parent, are an aunt, an uncle, or even just a babysitter, you've probably had to listen to "Let It Go" more times than you can count. And this is without even getting into all the times it's been on the radio, or performed at awards shows or in reality singing competitions. So, naturally, the director of Frozen feels a certain responsibility to offer up a "my bad" to parents everywhere.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee explains that she often ends up apologizing whenever she meets a parent.

"A year ago, I'd meet people who, when they found out who I was, they'd say, 'Oh, we love the songs! We sing them all the time.' Now they're like, 'Yep, we're still listening to those songs,'" she laughs. "I've gone from, 'Thank you,' to, 'Sorry!'"

However, this doesn't mean Lee dislikes the songs in the film. In fact, she's pretty fond of what is probably the film's second-most popular song. Although she has other reasons for being a fan of "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?"

"I actually sing the middle verse of 'Do You Want to Build a Snowman?' in the movie," says Lee Monn, Lee's 11-year-old daughter. Monn apparently recorded the verse only as filler until another voice could be found. But Walt Disney Animation Studios chief John Lasseter loved it and gave it the okay.

Of course, it might not entirely make sense for Lee to apologize for the song's inescapable popularity. I mean, it's not as if she wrote the thing. Although she did write the screenplay, which necessitated a transformation song for Elsa. So I guess she's just covering her bases.
