From Flo Rider to Arizona

(Here’s the results show recap from Howard!)

American Idol Season 8, Top 08 Elimination

After a rather odd performance show where two idols truly shined for me - Adam and Allison - while others varied from boring to unfortunate, it is rather confusing as to who will be saying goodbye. I can only guess it will be one of the gentlemen, and the bottom 3 could be an all-male review.

The show opens with a montage of the contestants, their thoughts and a recap of the performance show. Mario Lopez, he is so handsome. Flo Rider is going to sing, as well as Kellie Pickler. The judges start the evening in their seats, and Paula has long gloves - I guess the Top-8 is a formal affair. They play a Frankie Avalon clip of 'Venus', a number one from the year Simon was born, and Frankie comes out singing, taking over for the video. Where's Annette? Frankie looks good, but his voice is showing some age. The song was from 1959, just a year older than me. The Top 8 sing 'Can't Get You Out OF My Head'. Allison started out well, and then Matt creeped me out. The chorus is disappearing. Lil sounds good, but has no musicality at all. Adam surprised me and sings in his lower register. And Kris does sexyface.

The Making of a Ford Music Video! Old Hollywood, the song is Britney's Circus. It was cute seeing them having some fun. Nothing says menacing like glitter face paint. And Anoop is not impressed to wear the makeup.

Adam is up first., with Kris and Anoop. The judge's get a chance to give their thoughts about Adam's fabulosity, and Ryan announces he is safe and will sit down. Anoop and Kris are going head to head. In the bottom 3, and it is Anoop, and Kris is safe. Guess sexyface works. Kris looks a bit beaten, like he thought he was in the bottom. Anoop seemed a bit surprised, as am I, I have to admit.

Flo Rider is going to perform, but I am not sure it is live. He sure doesn't sound like it, and not in a good way. At best, he is being processed. The chick certainly sounds live. But he looks fantastic [I am turning into Paula]. The song seems to have implied things I would normally not consider family fare, but they sang it and tossed confetti around, so I guess that is enough.

Crusty returns to point out Anoop is in the bottom, and there are surprisingly few boos. Gokey is up next, but is declared safe. Matt is up next, looking nervous. But he is safe. Scott is next, and obviously in the bottom - do the math. Indeed he is in the bottom., and heads to the chairs, with an assist from Anoop. Allison and Lil are left to decide the last slot - which blows my boys-only prediction. And Lil is in the bottom, so Allison is safe. Simon says there is a couple people, one in particular, to consider for the save. Is it Lil or Anoop, for I think he wasn't speaking about Scott. Crusty reminds us Pickler is coming up next.

After a big buildup from Crusty, Kellie comes out, and looks good but sounds not-so-hot. Will this really help with her sales? But I bet Scott is thinking 'Simon, I don't look so bad now, do I?' She wishes the kids luck, and leaves. One person is going back to safety. That person is Lil, after a mean fake to Anoop. Both boys seem worried. One might be singing for their lives shortly, and we will find out after the break.

Back to the results, with 34 million votes in, only 30,000 votes separated the two. Scott has the lowest number of votes. The Desai family show real class, and give Scott a 'standing O' of support. He is going with a piano arrangement tonight. He is actually much better tonight. That big note, not great, but the rest, well, better. I don't think they were going to save him no matter what, but they are trying to play it out. Simon says 2 for and 2 against. They are huddling up - and finally Simon says, no, Scott's competition is over. Damn, his brother is hot. The kids rush out to comfort him. Paula ends the night with 'You are one classy gentleman, we love you.' Well said. Just don't sing at us anymore.
