Frances Bean Cobain Tells Lana Del Rey to Stop Romanticizing Death
Lana Del Rey's recent comments in an interview with The Guardian, in which she basically romanticizes an early death by declaring "I wish I was dead already," have triggered a response from an unexpected source: Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Courtney Love and the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.
Frances Bean took to Twitter to knock Del Rey down a peg, after the interview mentioned both Amy Winehouse and her own late father, Kurt Cobain.
"The death of young musicians isn't something to romanticize," Frances Bean writes. "I'll never know my father because he died young, and it becomes a desirable feat because people like you think it's 'cool.' Well, it's f***ing not. Embrace life, because you only get one life. The people you mentioned wasted that life. Don't be one of those people. You're too talented to waste it away."
When accused of attacking Del Rey in her tweets, Frances Bean responded by, once again, asserting that she thinks the singer is way too talented for this kind of attention-baiting:
I'm not attacking anyone. I have no animosity towards Lana, I was just trying to put things in perspective from personal experience.

For her part, Del Rey publicly noted that she regretted the interview, in promotion of her recently-released Ultraviolence album, almost immediately. Del Rey claimed that the Guardian reporter was exceedingly aggressive in his approach, going as far as to state that "His leading questions about death and persona were calculated."
"I regret trusting The Guardian," Del Rey wrote. "I didn't want to do an interview, but the journalist was persistent. [He] was masked as a fan, but was hiding sinister ambitions and angles. Maybe he's actually the boring one looking for something interesting to write about."
Naturally, interviewer Tim Jonze swears this isn't the case, stating that Del Rey was "delightful company." I'm sure when she's away from the Lana Del Rey persona, she's lovely. But there's just something so off-putting about the chanteuse persona, to the extent that she seems more like a character from a Dashiell Hammett novel. Then again, that's why I never really take offense to these sorts of comments from her, because they seem to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek. You can listen to the full interview itself below:
