France Wins Gold - Men's 4x100m Freestyle - London 2012 Olympics - Medal Results
Wow! What a way to close an exciting day of swimming competition! The Australians were heavily favored to win the Men's 4x100m Freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics, but the medal results will be shocking to some. The U.S. team, bolstered by a fantastic performance by Michael Phelps was just edged out for the Gold medal victory by France.
Part of the story of Michael Phelp's magical run in Bejing was an unlikely relay victory over France, so I guess turn about is fair play. Nathan Adrian and Michael Phelps really shined on the first two legs of the race, but Collin Jones lost a bit of the .7 lead. France still needed a remarkable anchor leg to edge out Ryan Lochte and claim the win and boy did they get one!
Lochte was obviously fading by the end of the race, but it was a great effort by the U.S. team and a thrilling performance by the French. Australia finished a disappointing fourth.
Results:
Gold: France
Silver: United States
Bronze: Russian Federation
