FOX Renews 'Sleepy Hollow'
We've got our first renewal of the 2013-2014 broadcast season, and it comes from FOX.
The network has renewed Sleepy Hollow for a 13-episode second season, reports Broadcasting Cable. The series premiered on Sept. 16 to a strong 3.5 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic, totaling 10.10 million viewers overall. After factoring in various other platforms, including Video OnDemand and online viewing via Fox.com and Hulu, the premiere was watched by more than 22 million viewers.
"The show has proven to be a risk well worth taking - it's a conceptual blast unlike anything else on television and it all holds together with inventive writing and a fantastic cast," said FOX Entertainment Chairman Kevin Reilly. "I can't wait for fans to experience what else is in store for this fall and even more of this wild ride into Season Two."
Whether the early renewal proves premature remains to be seen. The network granted an early renewal to The Following earlier this year after strong numbers for its first episodes. However, the show saw a considerable drop-off in subsequent weeks, and while FOX ultimately stood by its decision to renew the show, the series struggled to reach the promising ratings of its premiere episodes. With that said, the show's numbers remain promising heading into its second month on the air against stiff competition.
