FOX Developing Prequel Series About Gotham City

FOX is providing its own answer to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the network is developing a prequel series about Gotham City, the sprawling metropolis that serves as home to Batman and his rogues gallery of maniacal villains.

The series, tentatively titled Gotham, comes from Warner Bros. TV and will "explore the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and the villains that made the fictitious American city famous."

Bruno Heller (The Mentalist) will executive produce the one-hour series that’s already been ordered to series by the network. Though the show isn't expected to be about Batman, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that the series would feature the Wayne Family, prior to the tragedy that provides young Bruce with the impetus to become the Dark Knight.
