FOX Cancels 'Gang Related' for Lousy Reason
Gangs apparently aren't in season on TV this year: FOX has canceled Gang Related after just one season.
The undercover drama has been axed after failing to find much of an audience in its summer run. Originally scheduled to premiere at midseason, the series was pushed back to May. Whether or not it would have done better premiering at midseason is uncertain, but what we do know is that the drama -- starring Need for Speed's Ramon Rodriguez and Emmy-winning Lost star Terry O'Quinn -- could never score higher than a meager 0.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic in Live+Same Day ratings. However, the show's ratings did remain consistent throughout most of the summer, suggesting a fairly devoted following.
Reportedly, FOX was actually considering bringing the series back for a second season, but decided it was "too serialized for the summer," which is just about the dumbest reason I've ever heard for canceling the show. Why even commission a serialized drama in the first place then? It's just such a ridiculous rationalization. Unfortunately, since summer was the only opening on the schedule for next season, FOX had nowhere else to put Gang Related, so if they didn't feel like it would work in the summer, it just wasn't going to work at all.
Did you watch Gang Related? What are your thoughts on the cancellation? Sound off in the comments!
