FOX Cancels 'Dads', 'Enlisted', and 'Surviving Jack'

The inevitable has become reality: FOX has canceled three of its freshman comedies from this season.

Dads, Enlisted, and Surviving Jack have all been canceled after a season of low-ratings. But it's been more than just low ratings, in some cases. Dads drew controversy for its racist depiction of Asians in one episode, while Enlisted and Surviving Jack were midseason replacements that simply never found an audience. At the very least, the writing was on the wall for all three shows, particularly Dads, which had its episode order reduced early this year.

However, more troubling for FOX is news that the network is apparently passing on nearly every potential comedy pilot in its lineup. FOX had decided to pass on Fatrick, Dead Boss and No Place Like Home, three of the comedy pilots considered to be the strongest under consideration. The only two pilots remaining in contention for a series pickup are the Justin Long and Nick Frost odd couple comedy Sober Companion, and frat sitcom Cabot College. With Brooklyn Nine-Nine being the only freshman comedy to make it to next season, it appears FOX is completely abandoning its two-hour comedy block on Tuesday nights. In fact, it looks like it's also cutting back on returning dramas, as the network has apparently decided not to move forward with a second season of Rake, which isn't much of a surprise.
