'Forever' Gets Full Season Order from ABC

Fresh off of cancelling Tuesday night comedies Selfie and Manhattan Love Story, ABC has decided to give a full season order to brand new Tuesday night drama Forever.

The network has picked up nine more episodes of the crime procedural with a mystical twist, bumping up the episode count to a full season order of 22 episodes. This is the third new ABC show this season to receive a full season order, following How To Get Away With Murder and Black-ish.

The show stars Ioan Gruffud as Dr. Henry Morgan, a New York City medical examiner who's been alive for over 200 years due to some unexplained supernatural phenomenon. In essence, he's a doctor who can't die: any time he's killed, he simply respawns in a body of water, completely naked. The series relies on flashbacks to tell the story of Henry's multiple lives throughout his 200 years on this Earth, while also telling the parallel story of a murderer named "Adam", who has suffered from the same "curse" as Henry for over 2,000 years.

Interspersed throughout is the Case of the Week, which is almost always vastly less interesting than Henry's search for Adam, and the truth behind his condition. But I guess the show needed a hook to hang its hat on to make it work as a weekly show. Either way, it's pretty good, from the three episodes I've seen. Not a blowaway smash or anything, but a very solid show worth checking out, if you're big on crime procedurals and are sick of CBS cornering the market.
