FlashForward - White To Play - Recap

Here's the recap to tonight's episode of FlashForward "White To Play" from Noelle! Yup, we're watching this too, and Noelle is awesome:
We love FlashForward! Or Lost 2.0 as I've come to affectionately call it. I'm excited about this show. It's already got so many things going for it. Amazing cast, great promotion by ABC, and an awesome pilot episode. I'm also completely fangirling over the little Lost easter eggs they seem to be throwing in. Did anyone catch that Oceanic billboard last week? To summarize, everyone on the planet blacks out at the exact same moment for 2 minutes and 17 seconds, during which they each see a glimpse of their future. April 29th, 2010 to be exact. Naturally major chaos ensues.
Now, if you don't enjoy our recaps then you obviously don't appreciate some Grade A writing talent. But then again, no one is forcing you to read so there's always that shiny red x in the top right hand corner than can guide you. Otherwise, lets enjoy talking about the show together.
On to the live recap:
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Questions from last week:
Why did they black out? Whos behind it? What is the cause of their visions?
Why did Bryce want to kill himself?
Who are the people that want to kill Mark?
Who is the mysterious man who alone is awake during the blackout?
Why didn't Demetri see anything when he blacked out?
Why are Jett Jackson and Peter Griffin FBI agents?
Does anyone else think the lead guy looks like a less hot version of Nestor Carbonell from Lost? Minus the eyeliner of course.
Mark and Demetri go to Utah to investigate a lead on a suspect who might have a connection to the global blackout. Olivia sees the man from her flashforward, while her daughter Charlie is having trouble dealing with hers.
This week we open with an entire group of children seemingly passed out at a playground. Creepy. A child's voiceover singing Ring Around the Rosie is heard as we notice one child is standing. It's Charlie, Mark and Olivia's daughter. Something is definitely up with this kid.
Fake out! The kids are all just playing a game. Apparently kids deal with disaster by making a game out of it. One pushy kid on the playground rushes everyone over and wants to know what Charlie "saw" in her game blackout. Stop bothering her you freaky kid! She doesn't want to play with you. This kid is a bully and tries to take Charlie's doll away. He rips it so she pushes him over causing her teacher to chase her out of the school yard. She runs out into the street and stops in front of...a bunch of army vehicles and soldiers. I'm not quite sure why the army is camped outside of the school but there you go.
Now we're at mark's AA meeting. Look! There's Cameron from Ferris Bueller. I'm telling you this cast list is awesome. Cameron is freaking out about knowing his future and he's pissing off Mark. Mark and his AA sponsor Aaron talk outside about how stressful the flashforwards have made their lives. Aaron points out that now, everyone in the world is a prophet. It's a struggle. But they're all in it together.
At the FBI office, the group is talking about their investigation when Mark gets a call from his daughter's school. Charlie's teacher wants to know if everything is okay at home, because apparently a child not partaking in a disaster game isn't normal. Whatever. Charlie is obviously troubled about something. Mark and Olivia are worried because Charlie wasn't in either of their flashforwards. Mark wants to know if Charlie saw the same man that Olivia saw in her vision. Charlie is the missing puzzle piece in their family falling apart.
Back at the FBI office, someone from homeland security is doubting using funds to create a website based on visions that may or may not come true. Janis tries to explain that with the help of a high tech computer program, they can try to piece together the puzzle of the visions and any pattern that it creates, with the idea that they will soon be able to figure out what caused the blackout in the first place. Homeland security isn't comforted by the idea that the blackouts were a scheduled event. They decide to show her Subject 0; the man that security cameras caught as being the only person known to be awake during the blackout. She's riveted. As are we.
Charlie is spending the day at the hospital with Olivia. Cutie pie Bryce, who tried to kill himself last week, lets Olivia know that Lloyd Simcoe, the man from her vision, has been looking or her. Olivia goes to fix Charlie's doll from earlier. As she's doing so..Commodore Norrington alert! Or Lloyd has he's known here. I love that they decided to keep Jack Davenport's accent in this show. It's weird enough hearing Sonya without hers. Olivia is noticeably shocked to finally come face to face with the mystery man from her vision. He wants to know why she hasn't been around as he's wanted to meet the amazing doctor that saved his sons life. He lets her know that his son is autistic but that he doesn't know much about him because he seperated from his wife a long time ago. Now that she died during the blackout, he's forced into the picture.
Back to the FBI. Demetri is angry that Mark is actually wearing the friendship bracelet that Charlie made for him from his vision. He doesn't want to accept the possibility that the visions will come true. They set to work to figure out the mysterious name from Mark's billboard. D. Gibbons. Janis comes in to let them know that a D. Gibbons just walked in and she's asking for Demetri. She comes bearing cupcakes. They look good. She explains her flashforward. She's having a heated argument on the phone and mentions Pigeons and Demetri. It's a little confusing and Demetri is being stubborn. He doesn't think they should take what she says at face value.
Mark asks Stanford again about his vision for the juicy details. Stanford ends up coming clean and telling the truth, that his flashforward actually was nothing more than a delightful bowel movement. Juicy details alright. He tells Mark that he was also on the toilet when the flashforward happened. When he came to, he noticed a fellow FBI agent drowning in a urinal so he ends up having to give him mouth to mouth. Oh yeah. That's an unfortunate situation to find yourself in. Someone get him a breath mint stat.
At the hospital, Olivia is walking with Charlie and notices Lloyd sitting with his son. She asks Charlie if she's ever seen him before. She hasn't. Lloyd shifts and Charlie is able to see his son Dylan. She starts screaming for him wanting to know who hurt him. She says she saw him in her dream. Intrigue. Charlie's vision must hold a ton of clues.
Mark, Janis and Demetri are still investigating about D. Gibbons. It looks like she's a model citizen except for the fact she might have been a victim of identity theft. The culprit is residing in Pigeon, Utah. Pigeons! A clue. Looks like theyre heading to Utah. They meet up with another cop who informs them that she doesn't hold stock in the blackout visions because she herself didn't have one. Demetri looks hopeful. They set up a road block at a bus station to try and catch the D. Gibbons in Pigeon, Utah. He doesn't show and Demetri can't help but say "I told you so." As they get ready to leave, Mark notices a doll factory. A possible clue as it makes him think of the photo of the burned up doll in his vision. They check it out and come face to face with a creepy guy who ends up blowing up the place. Before he does he leaves them with a chilling message. "He who forsees calamity suffers them twice over." Yikes. The cop from earlier who didn't have a vision gets killed. It's not looking good so far for Demetri.
While going through the remains of the doll factory, Mark finds the picture of the burned doll. Demetri comes over to show him they recovered a cell phone and a chess piece. A white queen. None of that makes sense now but they can use the cell phone to try and pinpoint where the suspect was using it. It looks like he was doing some major computer hacking to try and figure out possible causes for the blackout. Mark is not the only one investigating the visions.
Back at the hospital, Commodore Norrington has to break the news to his son Dylan that his mother didn't survive the blackout. His reaction? "I want to see Olivia." dun dun DUN.
Janis uses the cell phone to figure out that D. Gibbons was on the phone with someone else DURING the blackout. But not just anyone else. He was on the phone with Suspect 0. Uhoh. Looks like creepy baseball stadium man has help. Demetri confides his worries about dying in the next 6 months to Janis seeing as the Utah cop didn't make it. She convinces him to make a post on the Mosaic Collective to see if anyone has information about his possible death. Someone does. He gets a call from someone who lets him know that on March 15, 2010 he's going to be murdered. Gasp!
Mark is at home sitting by the fire burning the friendship bracelet that Charlie gave him. Looks like he's trying to break the cycle. He goes up to see her and she wakes up to tell him why she was bad at school. She doesn't want the flash forwards to come true. Mark asks her what she saw. She says "D. Gibbons is a bad man." SAY WHAT!?!
This show is easily going to become one of my new favorites. How do i know this? Because my brain hurts from watching it. That's always a good sign. I love a good mystery. We're only 2 weeks in and i already have a million questions.
- Who the hell is D. Gibbons?
- Is Demetri going to die? If so, who murders him and why?
- What did Charlie see in her vision?
- Where can i get one of those cupcakes?
