FlashForward - Gimme Some Truth - Recap

(Here's Noelle's recap of tonight's episode of FlashForward "Gimme Some Truth")
I've got my Tylenol ready as this week's installment of Flashforward begins. This week, Mark has to defend his vision to the Senate and Olivia is worried he'll start drinking again. Well maybe if you weren't destined to cheat on him he'd have one less reason to reach for the bottle Olivia. We start off on what seems like Mark taking an innocent stroll to his car. It's innocent until he gets in a car crash and a bunch of scary asian guys with guns jump out of an SUV and blow up his car. What the heck?? Flashback to 39 hours earlier. A cliffhanger in the first two minutes? Not cool.
Mark is being questioned about his vision before a Senate Intelligence hearing. Certain investigations are being chosen for funding and Mosaic really needs it. Some investigation groups asking for money include a couple of nutjobs who believe aliens are behind it all and another old guy who blames it all on China. I don't really know what China ever did to him but there you go. Unfortunately for Mosaic, some scary lady who just happens to be senator has a grudge against Stan. She seems able to blackmail Stan for an affair he had a long time ago. Politics are always so messy.
Gasp! Peter Coyote is the president. Wow I'm having bad ET flashbacks. He has a rather ominous Flashforward that includes the generic waking of the president in the middle of the night and being told something has happened. Sigh. On the plus side, he seems to have a little history with Stan and seems keen on helping him. Janis gets a little plotline this week and a little bit of cleavage. She's on a hot first date with another girl and she's a swift little flirter. Looks like creepy nazi man from previous episodes was right. Janis isn't "out" however and this is interesting considering she's pregnant in her Flashforward. Hmmm. Sadly their relationship doesn't last long. Janis breaks it off after her date finds out about her pregnancy vision.
Aaron lets slip that Mark is having a hard time. Olivia puts two and two together and worries Mark will start to drink again. Her suspicions are confirmed when she gets a creepy anonymous text message telling her that Mark will drink in his vision. Jerks.
The questioning isn't going very well. No one seems to think it makes sense to launch an investigation based on a hazy vision. Personally, I find it more believable than blaming it all on China but whatever. Trying to help their case, they gather satellite imagery from Somalia and end up discovering a bunch of pylons or large towers in the middle of nowhere. Presumably like the ones we saw in that flashback to 91 with the dead crows. Creepy. Sadly, the senator is taking her grudge out on Mark and his funding. Stan decides to turn around and blackmail the president in order to get the funding. He's got dirt on the prez and his own affair but it doesn't look like the president is gonna take this sitting down. Uhoh. Source of the scary asian gunman maybe?
Oh yay! John Cho drunken karaoke! Nice. Aw, Mark and Stan get into a heated argument and Mark ends up admitting that his vision is hazy because he was drunk. Poor guy. Stan is flabbergasted and stuttering more than that girl from Glee. He just put his career on the line for a drunken vision. That's really the least of his problems considering his car is about to get blown up.
Yikes! Another gunman just shot Janis! She manages to kill him before she goes down. Mark's car is still in flames but phew, him and Stan got out of the car in time and are kicking ass with Demetri. All is right in the world. You would think however that Demetri would at least be a bit wary about walking into a full on gunfight without even wearing a bulletproof vest. Sheesh. What's going on?
Questions from tonight:
Who's behind the gunman going after Mark and Co.?
What are the dark towers surrounding in Somalia?
Is Janis going to die?
Who sent Olivia the text message?
What did China ever do to that old guy?
