FlashForward - Better Angels - Recap

The crew from the FBI minus Mark have landed in Somalia. They make their way to the mysterious tower to look for clues when they are attacked by a group of scary guys with guns. Their leader is the little boy we saw in the flashback who witnessed the crows dying. He's pretty bad ass and barely blinks as he starts killing off people one by one. I expect him not to react to murder but I was weirded out by how little of a reaction we got out of our group. They barely flinched. We see another flashback of what their leader witnessed. He walks into his village and sees the bodies of everyone who lives there scattered all over. He doesn't know it then but he's just witness a controlled blackout. He thinks his village was purged and he wants revenge. He demands the FBI send him tons of weapons and everything he'd need for a war. Gulp.

Mark and Olivia are still struggling with the fear of their visions coming true and Olivia still expresses a desire to move away from it all. She looks up homes and jobs available in Denver and tries to convince Mark that they should just pack up their stuff and go. Mark is hesitant and silently agrees with her but it couldn't be more obvious that he's just trying to buy himself time. Olivia tries to talk to Charlie and get her to tell her the details of what she saw in her vision and how she knows that D. Gibbons is a bad man. Charlie confesses that she and Dylan overheard Lloyd on the phone talking about D. Gibbons being a liar. Charlie turns to look out the window and she sees two men in suits standing there. She overhears one of them say that "Mark Benford is dead." She and Olivia are scared but Mark is certain that he'll be fine. I took that scene to mean that Mark was a "dead man" for getting in the way. Not in the physical sense. I could be wrong.

Bryce is trying to hide the discomfort and problems with his illness from Nicole and not let it interfere with his life. He crashes into Nicole in the hallway and probably ruptures her spleen in the process. She lets him in on her little secret. She's taking pre-med classes to become a doctor and maybe one day they can work together. Woohoo! Fun stuff. Only not so much. Bryce decides to tell her that he might not be around when she becomes a doctor because he has cancer. :( Bryce is such a nice, good guy. He gives Nicole his lucky charm and he's helpful to everyone. I wish they showed more of his character.

The leader of the armed group tells our friends that he saw a vision of himself becoming the leader of his country. He believes it to be a prophecy but in order for that to happen, he wants weapons. Janice manages to convince him, through the help of Mosaic, that what his vision actually was was him giving a peace talk. He considers this and allows them to look through the tower. They follow some dark creepy tunnels and find some interesting stuff. They find a video (orientation video ha!) of D. Gibbons talking about the experiment. The subjects were able to shift their consciousness 2 weeks into the future. They come across another room filled with the skeletons of the people from the village. Vogel then kills the militant who will now never get to give his peace talk.

This is reinforcing the idea that the visions will not necessarily come true. Janice is dismayed because she figures all hope is lost for her to have her baby conceived this weekend and it was never meant to be. Demetri disagrees and offers to help her out. She says she's gay and he says he'll make her gayer. Hahah. Guess he doesn't care that he's engaged. He's fully resigned to the fact that he'll be dead in a few months so why not procreate? Demtri's good mood doesn't last when he and Simon leave the video they found playing and see that it wasn't finished. D. Gibbons appears and says "Hello Demtri. I'm recording this in 1991." Dun dun DUN.

With Vogel revealed to be one of the men in suits that Charlie sees, is he the FBI mole? Is Demetri the mole and that's why Mark wants to kill him in the future? How did D. Gibbons know about Demetri?
