Five T.V. Starlets Who Should Take a Stab at Scream Queen Stardom

Halloween Time is officially upon us! In honor of the season of spooks and scares, here are a few young television actresses I think would make awesome additions to the realm of Scream Queen stardom. Remember, a Scream Queen must go from "damsel in distress" to "let me end this damn mess" over the course of about an hour and a half. Can these T.V. starlets stack up with the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis and Sarah Michelle Gellar?

ABC Family "Pretty Little Liars"

Troian Bellisario, Pretty Little Liars: As the incomparable Spencer Hastings, Bellisario has proven that she has the acting chops to go from buttoned up mathlete to batsh*t crazy to unflappable heroine from episode to episode as she solves the mysteries plaguing Rosewood on PLL. If anyone can lead a cast of teenage hooligans against a looming threat, like that pesky Ghostface from Scream, it's Troian! Bellisario's Spencer Hastings (sort of) cracks cases in her sleep. As long as she has her morning coffee...

Fox "Glee"

Naya Rivera, Glee: The song bird went from choir room seat filler to front and center over the course of about a season, and it was Naya Rivera's impressive delivery as the sassy Santana Lopez that demanded our attention to begin with. The original Glee bad girl could totally make the transition to the big screen through the world of horror flicks. Not even the perpetually punning Freddy Krueger is a match for Santana's biting tongue. Santana is super scary sometimes!

ABC Family "The Lying Game"

Alexandra Chando, The Lying Game: The prematurely cancelled Lying Game might not have ever scared up a killer fan base, but the short-lived ABC Family series certainly served its purpose as a platform for the shows lead, Alexandra Chando. Capable of effortlessly swapping between "good twin" Emma and "bad twin" Sutton from scene to scene, Chando could certainly hold her own on screen against the likes of Michael Meyers and Jason Vorhees. Obviously, she wouldn't be playing the same character, but if she could pull off the ultimate venus flytrap in Sutton Mercer as well as she did, Chando can certainly recreate the magic on the silver screen.

CW "The Vampire Diaries"

Nina Dobrev, The Vampire Diaries: It's one thing to swap seamlessly between playing Mystic Falls sweetheart Elena Gilbert and vampire vixen Katharine. The two are clearly polar opposites; however, Dobrev's recent work as freshly transformed baby vamp Elena going through the motions of coming to turns with being, well, undead showcased a spectrum of emotions that inevitably added up to one realization; Nina Dobrev's forte as an actress is the role of a survivor.

Dimension "Scream 4"

Hayden Panettiere, Scream 4: Okay, so maybe this is slightly cheating, but anyone who caught the stellar reboot to the Scream franchise knows that Hayden Panettiere's Kirby stole the show. If you have any doubt, let me remind you of the clip embedded below.
Video no longer available.
Spoiler Alert: We saw poor Kirby take a knife to the gut in the film's closing moments, but we never actually watched her die. Just candy corn for thought, Wes Craven. Make it happen. Bring back Kirby, Craven!

What do you think? Who would you add to the list of T.V. starlets bound for Scream Queen stardom?
