Final Box Office: 'The Other Woman' is America's No. 1 Movie

The box office estimates from Friday, as well as the receipts from Saturday and Sunday, have come together to tell us what we already knew: The Other Woman is America's No. 1 movie, ending the three-week reign of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In a crucial weekend, the last before the official start of the summer movie season, The Other Woman raked in an impressive $24.7 million. Women represented a massive 75 percent of the audience for the film, which centers on Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton as three women teaming up to take down the philanderer they all have in common, Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Taylor Kinney and Nicki Minaj also star.

Meanwhile, Captain America grossed $16 million to take the No. 2 spot. With this weekend's gross, the superhero blockbuster has now earned $224.9 million domestically, making it the highest-grossing April release of all time in North America. The news was similarly great for Christian film Heaven Is For Real, which has surpassed $50 million domestically with this weekend's gross. The inspirational drama earned $13.8 million to come in at No. 3.

Rio 2 dropped to No. 4, bringing in $13.7 million and pushing its domestic total to $96.2 million. This outranks the weekend's other big newcomer, Brick Mansions. The action film, which is the penultimate movie of the late Paul Walker, came in at No. 5 with a disappointing $9.6 million. From action auteur Luc Besson, the film is a remake of the French film Banlieue 13, so perhaps the movie will recoup a larger chunk of its $28 million budget overseas.

Still, the turnout for Brick Mansions was far better than the turnout for Johnny Depp's Transcendence, which plummeted a shocking 62 percent in week two, earning just $4.1 million. This brings the domestic total for the $100 million blockbuster to an embarrassing $18.5 million. Coming in at No. 6 domestically, the movie is doing only slightly better overseas, grossing $10.8 million for the weekend from 37 international markets. Still, the studio had been banking on a stronger international performance to make up for the underwhelming box office in North America. On the plus side, Transcendence just narrowly edged out debuting horror film The Quiet Ones, which grossed $4 million to come in at No. 7.
