'Fight Club' To Get 10-Issue Comic Book Sequel

Well, despite the first rule of Fight Club, it looks like the world is talking about Fight Club.

That's because author Chuck Palahniuk has decided to write a sequel to his 1996 novel with Fight Club 2. Of course, because Palahniuk hardly ever does the expected, the story will neither be a novel nor a film. Rather, this Fight Club sequel will be a 10-issue comic maxiseries for Dark Horse Comics. Palahniuk will collaborate with interior artist Cameron Stewart and cover artist David Mack to bring the series to life, and hopefully win over an ardent fanbase that isn't entirely sold on the idea just yet.

In an interview with USA Today in which he confirms the project, Palahniuk recalled announcing the sequel at last year's New York Comic-Con, and how inadvertently talking up a sequel locked him into the commitment.

“I messed up and said I was doing the sequel in front of 1,500 geeks with telephones,” Palahniuk said. “Suddenly, there was this big scramble to honor my word.”

Fight Club 2 will see the return of several characters from the original book, such as the unnamed narrator, Marla Singer and Tyler Durden, all of whom were played by Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, and Brad Pitt in the iconic 1999 film adaptation. The story will reportedly focusing on the narrator's fractured relationship with his 9-year old son, Junior.

“The original book was such a tirade against fathers — everything I had thought my father had not done combined with everything my peers were griping about their fathers,” Palahniuk said. “Now to find myself at the age that my father was when I was trashing him made me want to revisit it from the father’s perspective and see if things were any better and why it repeats like that.”

The first issue of Fight Club 2 is scheduled to hit stores on April 8, 2015. Just in time to help you feel a little less awful about tax season.
