FIFA apologizes to England, Mexico for World Cup errors

FIFA apologizes and promise to "reopen debate" on introducing video technology.

It should really be a no-brainer to have video reviews or at least a review panel on hand during games to give the correct call on the field. When everybody except the referees know what just happened, the sport really looks stupid. Oh yeah, the reason why players love to "flop" on the field? Because they know the referees are stupid and gullible. Maybe instant replay and perhaps an immediate hauling of a player off the field if he winces in pain should be the rule.

From Yahoo Sports:

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has apologized to England and Mexico for the refereeing errors that helped eliminate them from the World Cup and says FIFA will reopen the debate on introducing video technology.

Blatter said Tuesday that he said sorry to team officials, and that the delegations of both teams accepted his apology.

“Naturally we deplore when you see the evidence of referees mistakes,” said Blatter, who attended Sunday’s matches in Bloemfontein and Johannesburg.

Blatter said it would be “a nonsense” for FIFA not to look again at goal-line technology with its rule-making panel.

“After having witnessed such a situation,” Blatter said, referring to England’s non-goal against Germany, “we have to open again this file, definitely.”
