FBI Investigating Jennifer Lawrence iCloud Hacker
The hacker who was able to reach into the iCloud and illegally obtain nude photos of female celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, and more now has the FBI to worry about.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation released a statement confirming they're looking into the matter:
“The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter,” the statement read. “Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time.”
This comes not long after Apple launched its own official investigation into the security breach, as this is a pretty big black eye on the integrity of iCloud security.
“We take user privacy very seriously and are actively investigating this report,” said Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris, in a statement to the Associated Press.
Naturally, the hacker should probably be pretty worried. In 2012, a man named Christopher Chaney was sentenced to 10 years in prison for hacking the email accounts of Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis and Christina Aguilera. It's hard to know what kind of time this hacker is looking at if/when he's caught, but I would assume it'd be a sentence similar to Chaney's -- only multiplied exponentially. I just can't imagine the lawyers for all these stars settling for anything less than the maximum possible punishment for what has been quite possibly the biggest security breach in the history of the entertainment industry.
