Ezra Miller to Play 'The Flash' In 2018 DC Comics Film
Barry Allen is coming to the big screen in 2018. While, unfortunately, it will not feature The Flash's Grant Gustin in the lead role, the upcoming Flash movie will have a pretty talented star wearing The Flash duds regardless.
Ezra Miller will play Barry Allen/The Flash in the big screen project from Warner Bros., which just announced 10 DC films, 3 Lego movies, and 3 Harry Potter spinoffs to be released over the next six years.
Miller is a pretty solid actor with considerable ranger. Granted, much of his best-known work has involved teen angst, so it has me wondering if the film is trying to take The Flash in a similarly angsty direction. I hope not, since I think it would be a mistake for a cinematic universe that already has plenty of angst to go around, between Batman and this new interpretation of Superman. That said, even in those angsty roles, Miller has done tremendous work. He was great in The Perks of Being A Wallflower, and even though I basically loathed We Need to Talk About Kevin, I thought Miller was fantastic in it. So while I think this choice is far from ideal, I'll reserve judgment for now. I mean, people didn't exactly think Heath Ledger would be a good Joker, so I'm hesitant to outright condemn this. I might be higher on this decision if I didn't have Grant Gustin to compare it to, but I can't get that portrayal out of my head, at the moment. He's just a terrific Flash, and an even better Barry. So Miller has major shoes to fill here. But I'm confident in Miller's abilities, so he could end up surprising more than a few people with his performance, in my opinion.
But what do you think of this casting decision? If not Miller, whom would you have liked to see get the nod? Sound off in the comments!
