Embryonic Stem Cell Research
I posted two election-related posts over the past week but I've set them aside in draft-mode. I thought that they were a bit too "passionate" -- and probably incoherent -- for the "look and feel" that I'm trying to establish in this blog -- who am I kidding?
Anyway, I was depressed for a while (like half the United States and most of the world), but I've been quick to get over it. The world just seems like a sadder place right now. My roommate Georgi was trying to cheer me up last night as I've gone through some major losses in a row: first the Yankees, now the Democrats. But we'll survive. It just sucks.
The one particular sadness I have is regards to stem-cell research. Currently, the Bush administration allows stem-cell research, but only on the most useless of strains. It is a policy that allows them to say that they support stem-cell research, but the research will amount to nothing. This science holds so much promise and yet Bush prefers to hold it back because he thinks using human embyros will damn him to hell. Well, this from a person who thinks that the deaths of 100,000+ Iraqis and U.S. soldiers is morally correct.
At any rate, before I get too heated up, I'll stop and say that I'm disappointed, and will just look forward to Hillary's election in 2008.
There is one great news that came out this week however that I'd like to share: I'm going to have a date tomorrow! After all the rejection I've had on Yahoo! Personals, I'm glad that Juan Carlos has decided to watch a movie with me. Yay!
