'Elysium' To Become A Reality Series - Video
Credit: TriStar Pictures
So...a sci-fi movie in which the world is separated into haves and have-nots probably isn't what people would expect to be adapted into a reality TV series. However, Syfy is banking on sci-fi fans getting hooked by their high-concept premise.
Syfy is taking the concept behind Elysium, Neill Blomkamp's 2013 sci-fi action film starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, and using it as the basis for a reality series called Opposite Worlds.
The series will be a six-week experiment that splits 14 people into two teams; one that lives like "in the luxurious future" while the other will live "in the primitive past." The two "worlds" will be separated by a glass wall, forcing each team to consider the pros and cons of the respective lifestyles. Each week, the teams will compete in challenges that will emphasize their different lifestyles, with the winning team continuing in the competition while the losing team must eliminate one of its members. Viewers will even have a chance to have an impact via social media.
So yeah, basically Survivor: Fiji.
Opposite Worlds premiere January 21 on Syfy. Check out the first official trailer below:
