Elton John is Set to Marry His Longtime Partner David Furnish

Come this May, come what may, Elton John will wed his longtime partner David Furnish in England. The duo have already had a British Civil Partnership for the past eight years.

Furnish explained that they decided to get married the old fashioned way now that gay marriage has been legalized in Britain.

As he told the Las Vegas Review Journal, "We don't feel the need to take an extra step legally, but since we're committed for life, we feel it's really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example."

While the Marriage Act was passed in July, same-sex marriage ceremonies only began this Saturday.

John previously said it was his "duty" to be one of the first gay couples married in the country.

Furnish echoes those same sentiments, saying, "Elton and I will marry – as a high-profile couple, we feel it is our duty to do it, to make sure that everyone knows that this is something that many gay men living in this country never dreamed would happen."
