The Rock is headed for disaster!

Dwayne Johnson has signed on to star in San Andreas, the upcoming earthquake disaster movie from director Brad Peyton, who directed Johnson in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island.

The film centers on a rescue-helicopter pilot (Johnson) who must make a dangerous trip across California to save his estranged daughter after a devastating earthquake hits the state.

Andre Fabrizio and Jeremy Passmore wrote the initial draft of the script, while Chad and Carey Hayes are working on the most current draft. The project is based on an idea by Beau Flynn of the Flynn Picture Co., who will be co-producing with Tripp Vinson.

New Line, the film's studio, is looking to start production in April 2014 for a 2015 release date.

Johnson has a full slate of projects coming up, as he's recently completed filming on Hercules: The Thracian Wars, and is currently filming Fast & Furious 7.
