Dramatic Colima Volcano Eruption At Night Caught On Video

The Colima Volcano in Mexico experienced a night-time eruption last January 18, 2017, sending volcanic ash up to 4 km above the crater. A nearby airport was forced to close.

A webcam which was installed last year caught the dramatic explosion and streamed on the internet in real time.

Colima is one of the sixteen "Decade Volcanoes" designated by the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI). These volcanoes are constantly monitored because they are located in a populated area and may threaten hundreds to thousands of people.
