Dracula - Episode 9 - Recap - Four Roses

Dracula is straight-up wacky, and I'm not sure NBC did this on purpose. It seems like this show was supposed to be a very high-quality premium cable type of show, meant to grab audiences of shows like True Blood. Instead, it's this weird, trippy melodrama is hilariously outlandish dialogue and acting. Now that the plot is more easily followed, the show is actually fun to watch because of the unintentional comedy of it! Also because some of the side characters actually to a superb job acting. Really just Jonathan Rhys Meyers is doing a weird job.

Dracula (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) is ready for war against the Order of the Dragon, and Van Helsing has already fired the first shot. Some men from The Order show up to search Grayson's home and Renfield deals with them as Renfield is wont to do. Grayson doesn't even suspect about Van Helsing's moonlighting as a kidnapper, but Abraham has made it clear that their partnership is over. No big loss to ol' Drac though, since he's got a bunch of vampire friends to do killing for him. Drac is still obsessed over Mina Harker, visiting her bunches and denying his involvement in her violent rescue.

Jonathan Harker and Lucy totally took a downtown train to the Bone Zone!! Way to ruin your upcoming marriage, doucher! Anyway, Lucy is real sad and Harker is real mad. Harker gets his official induction into the Order of the Dragon for taking out the rogue Davenport last episode. Since Dracula doesn't know about Harker's various transgressions, Harker's still got a run of the mansion. He steals schematics for one of Grayson's magic science machines and books it. Lucy blows up his spot about cheating on Mina, but she's stuck in the hospital, so it's not like Harker is going to see any consequences there. Except of course she can escape from the hospital and she has a key to Harker's house, so she goes and confronts him. Doesn't end well, of course. Mina passes out in the street and ends up back in the hospital. Grayson is there upon her waking, and they talk openly about their love, and about the woman who Dracula used to love, the identical woman.

The Order is piiiiissed. Van Helsing stole their leader's kids and now that guy is convinced that Alexander Grayson is a vampire (which he is, of course). They're behind the search at Grayson's, of course. Lady Jayne somehow convinces her compatriots that Dracula isn't Dracula, even though he clearly is Dracula. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Dracula closes out the episode by siring Jayne. Apparently siring on this show works how it does on Buffy, where the vampire eats the victims blood, then the victim eats the vampire's blood, so Jayne (already in the tub) ends up covered in blood and totally shocked.

That's it! One more episode! Next week is war, and the preview makes it look like Lady Jayne is still on the good guys side, even though we just saw her being made into a vampire. I wish this pace had been used all along! It's exciting now that it's faster, and I want to watch more of the show that has resulted! I can't though, so it's last week and then nothing! Penultimate preview below!
