Dracula - Episode 6 - Recap - Of Monsters And Men

I have no idea what's going on in NBC's Dracula. After an episode or two of normal, easily-followed plots, we're back into total wackiness. The show has been a rollercoaster, the sort that makes a person throw up from all the twists. Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars as the titular nosferatu, who is also posing as an American businessman named Alexander Grayson, who seems to have a nefarious plot to... bring miracles of science to late-1800s London?? He's working on wireless energy, and also a way to revive corpses and de-necrotize flesh! I mean he also eats people, which isn't great... But still!

This week, as in other weeks, Dracula's got to go outside! But much moreso now. He's dreaming of it, and the Order of Dracula is planning to force Alexander Grayson to reveal his true nature. His nocturnal habit is beginning to draw suspicion from both allies and enemies, so he pushes harder for his buddy Abraham Van Helsing to finish the serum that will allow the pasty bloodsucker to walk amongst the living in the daylight. previous attempts have not worked out so well! Anyway, he gets a super-charged dose and it finally does! I guess the solution was to... try harder?? He does get burned, but eating a lady's blood totally fixes it just in time for the credits to roll. That seems to be... the entire plot of the episode. Huh.

Well, there is one sub-plot this week, in which Mina's engagement to Harker is... consummated. It didn't occur to me that this was a big deal, but then I remembered that normally people didn't even, like, look at a clothed boob until after the wedding. Now, this would be all fine and good, but we the audience know that Mina's best friend (who is a lady) is secretly in love with her! Oh no! I hope that doesn't complicate things! It does. She totally cops to her big dumb crush on Mina and I actually feel a little bit bad for her. I mean, that's got to be really upsetting at a time when "gay" was not really an option for people. Anyway, Mina runs off, clearly upset and confused!

This show. I don't even know what's going on half the time, and it is literally my job to write about what goes on in this show. Not just half the time, but all the time! It's reasonably entertaining, but for some reason, the whole thing seems like it's in a language that I do not understand quite so well. There's some tense scenes in offices. There's some dream sequences. There's another tense scene in a carousel. It's all very bizarre and makes for an experience that you can't quite get from any other TV shows! Check out the preview for this episode below!
