Dr. Luke Is Suing Kesha Right Back, Claiming Defamation and Extortion
Earlier today, news broke that Kesha was suing Dr. Luke, her producer of 10 years, on charges of sexual assault and battery. In the civil complaint, Kesha alleges Dr. Luke sexually, physically, emotionally and psychologically abused her with an ongoing campaign of torment that drove her to an eating disorder that nearly killed her. But are the allegations true?
Dr. Luke says no. In fact, he's going quite a bit further than just saying no. He's suing Kesha right back, on claims of defamation and extortion.
Dr. Luke's lawsuit, filed in New York just hours after Kesha's, declares Kesha fabricated "outrageous and untrue statements" to extort him into letting her her out of her recording contract with his label.
Kesha's lawyer, Mark Geragos, claimed that Kesha's lawsuit "is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for 10 years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke."
"The facts presented in our lawsuit paint a picture of a man who is controlling and willing to commit horrible acts of abuse in an attempt to intimidate an impressionable, talented, young female artist into submission for his personal gain," added Geragos. "Kesha is focused on moving her life and her career beyond this terrible time."
However, Christine Lepera, Dr. Luke's lawyer, claims Kesha's suit "is nothing more than a continuation of her bad and offensive acts."
"As set forth in the complaint that we have filed on behalf of Dr. Luke, Kesha and her mother are engaged in a campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements about Dr. Luke to third parties, including scurrilous and false statements of purported physical and mental abuse of Kesha," Lepera added. "We are confident that Dr. Luke will prevail in all matters, and that our client will be awarded substantial damages for this malicious conduct."
It's hard to know who's telling the truth until we get a presentation of some kind of evidence in a court of law. Otherwise, this is simply a "he said, she said" situation.
