Dr. Luke not judging American Idol - Report

Contrary to previous reports, Dr. Luke will not be the third judge on American Idol, citing time commitments. However it may be due to a Sony/Universal rivalry.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting exclusively that Lukasz Gottwald that "came to the realization that the commitment would simply demand too much of his time." An insider says, "He really loves his artists and wants to build up the label." His label is Kemosabe, through Sony, and currently signed aspiring young female rapper Becky G (whom is noted in the article as their priority) as well as songwriter Bonnie McKee and rapper Juicy J. It reads that they are "on the cusp" of breaking through with Becky G. Really?? Alllright...

The insider went on to say "Luke wants to build an entertainment company ... after a lot of conversations, both Luke and Sony Music CEO Doug Morris came to the mutual agreement that taking Dr Luke out of the Idol running "was the best thing for all parties."

THR's report also says Dr. Luke "was bound to run into a snag with Sony Music" and reminds us that "Sony’s competitor, Universal Music Group, holds the exclusive rights to American Idol recordings." Hmm..that sounds more like the reason.

This last minute snag puts a dent in Idol's plans, as they start filming soon. Scooter Braun is also in talks, but even as THR notes in their article, he is spread thin with his artists Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, Psy, and The Wanted all doing projects now.
