Donald Sterling banned for life from the NBA

L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life from the NBA.

The league may force a sale of the Clippers basketball team.

Sterling was caught on tape telling his girlfriend not to associate herself with black people. The NBA authenticated the tape and handed out the ban today. The Clippers team, who are in the playoffs, have staged multiple silent protests and many celebrities have come out vocally condemning Sterling.

Meanwhile, the team made a huge statement on their Web site after the NBA announcement: "We Are One" is the only message on the team's official Web site right now.

From Reuters:

The NBA said that Donald Sterling will be banned “for life from any association” from the Clippers, the team he owns, as well as the NBA—a move that bans him from attending any games and practices. He’ll also be fined $2.5 million, which will be donated to organizations that support anti-discrimination efforts, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said. Silver also said he’ll ask the NBA board of governors to “force” a sale of the team. These decisions came following an NBA investigation which concluded that Sterling was in fact the voice in a recording making racist comments. Sterling's team will play tonight in Game 5 of the first round of the NBA playoffs. “This has been a painful moment for all members of the NBA family,” Silver said.
