Donald Glover Explains 'Community' Departure in Series of Emotional Letters

Donald Glover

When news came out that Donald Glover would be reducing his role on NBC's Community to a meager five episodes in the upcoming fifth season, many speculated Glover's decision to depart the NBC series was motivated by a desire to focus on his rap career (under the name Childish Gambino). However, that appears not to be the case.

In a series of emotional, handwritten letters posted to Glover's Instagram account, the actor explains his decision to leave Community, while also waxing philosophical about his place in the entertainment industry, and in the lives of his loved ones. [Be forewarned, Glover gets pretty explicit here]

This was an extremely tough read for a Glover fan like myself, and it's stunning that someone this talented could still be plagued by such self-doubt, but self-esteem doesn't exactly follow fame 100% of the time. I can only hope things start looking up for him soon, because Glover is a unique, singular talent who also seems like a genuinely decent guy.
